Superficial epidermal burns that are relatively small in surface area can be managed in primary care with simple first aid, analgesia and emollients. Wound swabs can be taken.
Prophylactic antibiotics are not needed if there is no sign of infection and an X-ray is not warranted.
Dressings are more useful in dermal burns
