Common skin infection caused by the yeast Pityrosporum ovale. Common in aged late teens and 20's. Insidious onset, maybe first noticed on a summer holiday. Asymptomatic or slight itch. Upper trunk most common site. Individual lesions often oval shaped but large confluent areas often develop. Fawn coloured in light skin, lighter colour in dark skin with fine scale. Management: Ketoconazole shampoo (Nizoral) made into a lather and left on affected areas for 10 minutes before washing off - repeat daily for 5 days.
