Addison's: Addison's disease (CKS), Addison's disease (NHS Choices)
Addison’s disease is a cause of hyponatraemia. Conn’s syndrome, Cushing’s disease and diabetes insipidus are associated with hypernatraemia. Profound hypothyroidism can cause hyponatraemia.
In the developed world, Addison’s disease (primary adrenal insufficiency) usually has an autoimmune aetiology but elsewhere tuberculosis remains a common cause. It can also be caused by infarction, invasion and haemorrhage in the adrenal cortices. (RCGP, July 2024)
