According to the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance, bariatric surgery may be considered for individuals with BMI >40 kg/m² or BMI 35-40 kg/m² with significant obesity-related diseases that could improve with weight loss. Surgery can also be considered for BMI 30-35 kg/m² if type 2 diabetes is present. (RCGP, July 2024)
